I have tried the numerous pumpkin spice latte (henceforth PSL) recipes and none of them measure up. But while drinking one of the many PSLs I've had so far this season, inspiration struck. The pumpkin syrup is creamy. It makes even skim milk richer.
So with my secret ingredient in hand, I set to work tonight, with a cup of PSL next to me to compare to as I worked. I also bought a shop of espresso from Starbucks so the coffee wouldn't be the difference. Oh yes, this was scientific! I blindfolded my husband and gave him the two and he chose MINE as being Starbucks! Are you ready???
The secret is sweetened condensed milk!!!
1.5 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
1 tbsp pumpkin
1 tsp pumpkin spice seasoning (it's a mix of cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg)
1/8 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp sugar
1 cup milk
1 shot (1oz) espresso
Combine all in a small sauce pan over medium heat for about 5 minutes, until the milk is hot. I'm going to combine the first 6 ingredients in larger quantities to store in the fridge to see if how that works.
I strained mine for consistency (since the spices are clumpy) and I didn't want that to factor in.
