Last year when I hosted the Tangerine Tango Quilt Challenge my quilt idea never came to fruition. I was super excited about orange too! This year my girls kept me on track and MADE me work. I'm so glad they did because I love this guy!
The design is from Quilting Modern
. It's 27" x 27". Kind of a large mini, but I happen to have the perfect wall space for it. The quilting took a while, but I love how it turned out!
I backed it with some Amy Butler that I had on hand. Not really a fan of this collection, but this print seemed to pick up the colors well and I figured that I'd never look at the back. (Sorry Amy!)
I also finally tried out a binding method that I've been thinking about. I like that the stitching is on the binding only on the front & back (unlike this method). Another thing that bugs me is when you can lift up the little bit of binding outside the stitching and see the first round of stitching used to attach the binding. Not a great explanation, but when I put together a tutorial you'll see. ;)
Oh my gosh, I love everything about this!!! Those colors are PERFECT together!! I'm really looking forward to your binding tutorial too - I've been improving my machine binding skills, but it eats away at me when you can see the first set of stitches!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great design - very well done!
ReplyDeleteoh yeah - so glad you finished it! It's lovely!
ReplyDeleteThis looks awesome! I used the same AB fabric in a different colorway on a back too, it just fit. Where you going to hang it?
ReplyDeleteI understand your issues with the tutorial and look forward to seeing how you've changed it up to better suit your needs :)
ReplyDeleteI love the pop of contrast in the centre - it really makes the green sparkle!
ReplyDeleteI bind like that often when I am short of time or if I know the quilt will get washed a lot. My trick is to cut the binding just 1/4 inch wider (so 2 3/4) and that gives me enough to that I know I'll cover the first row of stitching but not so much that I get a flappy edge on the back. Plus I love to topstitch.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! I made the Blind-co pilot from the "Quilting Modern" book and absolutely love it.
ReplyDeleteQuilting if awesome too.
Great job. Love teh Amy Butler on the back.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! The backing is perfect with those colrs.
ReplyDeleteFabulous design and I love these colours with the hot pink!
ReplyDeleteI do like the way your binding looks (and the quilt itself of course!) and can't wait to see your tutorial :)
